In classic Aries fashion, last month flew by before my eyes. Every year, I’m surprised by how cold Aries season remains here in New York (and even Arizona!). Despite the cold, grey days, the flowers begin to emerge! The trees in front of my windows are now in full, robust bloom, and the air is fragrant with late April. I really felt the restlessness of Aries in my body this year. I battled with conflicting ideas to bring into form (or seeds to plant you could say). I noticed myself getting overly ambitious and complicating my work more than I needed to. This month, I am looking forward to finding my ‘center’, taking more yoga classes, teaching more, and simplifying my visions for the rest of the year.

Before we dive in to the season, here is my ode to Aries season, a time to begin again right where we are.

az roads, krishnamurti in a wine bar, mom's roses, early blooms, antique glass, me!, broadway energy, luna in the sun, one of my many cherished printing errors in the luminary journal

And now, let us feel the grass beneath our feet and the cold morning breeze in our hair, as we step into Taurus season.

TAURUS SEASON → April 20 - May 19

And so we shift into the vibrancy of deep spring with Taurus season. Where Aries planted the seeds, Taurus fertilizes the soil and waits patiently for the roots to emerge. Like its sister sign, Scorpio, Taurus explores what it means to stand still and immerse itself within the simplicity of the present moment. Last month, Aries used its fiery momentum and windy excitement to pull us out of winter and bring us forth into the new season. Now, with the luxurious vibe of Taurus, we get to stroll through the park, sit with our tea, and watch the day go by.

The determination present in Taurus is what helps us build our stable foundation, tend to the integrity of our roots, before flying forth into Gemini season. There is something to be said for the strength of this yin season sandwiched in between two of the strongest yang seasons of the year (Aries & Gemini). It is an important time for us to care for our physical bodies and tend to our physical spaces (spring cleaning?!)

Taurus season is a mini retreat for the nervous system in between Aries and Gemini. A time for us to slow down and enjoy the view. As I’ve mentioned before, I have been exploring my own relationship with technology and social media in the last few months. I have nearly cut my screen time in half and have stopped listening to podcasts and music as much when I commute. I tried to run errands last week without using google maps, and I’ve gotta tell you, despite getting turned around a few times, it was quite fun. Taurus season feels like the perfect time to challenge our dependence on technology and tend to our offline existence. Let us cultivate or rekindle our favorite hobbies…even just for this month.

A few days ago, I taught a yin class inspired by the goddess Parvati. (It is also the practice I include at the bottom of this month’s newsletter). Speaking about her felt so in alignment with the themes of Taurus, I wanted to share it with you.

As it goes, Parvati, goddess of devotion, fertility, and inner strength, is born as the daughter of the mountain king, which is where her name comes from (Parvat means “mountain” in Sanskrit). When she falls in love with Shiva, he is deep in meditation and rejects the outside world. But instead of giving up, Parvati turns inward and begins her own intense spiritual practice. She meditates alone in the forest for years, living simply, cultivating strength and clarity. Eventually, Shiva recognizes her power, not because she chases him, but because she becomes his equal.

She teaches that devotion isn’t about self-sacrifice—it’s about staying true to yourself, even when the path is long or quiet. Through her story, Parvati reminds us that growth takes time and that strength can look like stillness, patience, and inner fire.

I think Parvati is a beautiful embodiment of the Taurus energy we are going to explore in the next month. Quiet devotion, steadfastness, strength in stillness, and cultivating a sense of unshakeable inner strength.

I deeply admire Taurus energy. I love this astrological placement in some of my closest friends and loved ones. I see it embodied as deep loyalty, a persistent work ethic, and high-quality taste. One of the key words I associate with this sign is VALUE. Taurus knows what it values, it knows what it’s worth, and it often doesn’t settle for less. That’s where that stubborn quality comes in with this sign. A determination to achieve or receive the highest quality result.

As an earth sign, Taurus cares deeply about the physical world. It prioritizes sensory pleasures such as delicious fruits, floral incense, silk sheets, heart-opening music, and the beauty of the nature around them. They are the most analog sign of the zodiac. They lean towards hands-on jobs and activities, choosing to put pen to paper rather than reach for the keyboard, or spending long hours in the kitchen over clocking in at the office. Taureans were born to get their hands dirty and to learn through tactile experiences.

So, as we move through this season ourselves, how can we take a page out of their book?

/let your bare feet touch the earth

/make something with your hands

/ keep fresh flowers in your house all month long

/ move your body in a way that feels slow, nourishing, and sensual

/ choose something you’d like to devote yourself to for the rest of the month, the rest of the year, or your whole life….

/ eat really delicious food as often as you can

Reflections for this season:

1/ what am I devoted to?

2/ do I feel resistance or ease when I start to slow down?

3/ what are small ways I can invite more sensory pleasures into my days?

From the Luminary Journal on Taurus Season:

“Taurus governs the neck, vocal cords, thyroid glands, and the five senses, symbolizing stability, self-expression, and a deeper connection to the physical world. Mentally and spiritually, it encourages patience, perseverance, and sensory appreciation, encouraging you to cultivate inner security and savor the beauty of life’s simple pleasures.”

Major Lunations of Taurus Season:

🌗 Last Quarter Moon in Aquarius (4.20)

🌑 New Moon in Taurus (4.27)

🌓 First Quarter Moon in Leo (5.4)

🌕 Full Moon Scorpio (5.12)

Just as our major lunations of last month were all in cardinal signs, initiating the start of a new season, this month we see all of our major moon phases happening in fixed signs. These signs hold steady and point to where we commit to investing our time and energy.

This season, we see the new and full moons showing up along the Taurus/Scorpio axis. These sister signs represent the spectrum of attachment & detachment.

There is a beautiful and challenging dance between ownership and surrender that appears with these two signs. The new moon in Taurus will inspire us to think about what we want to cultivate, build, create, and take pride in over a long period. Whereas the full moon in Scorpio shines a light on what we need to let go of or be willing to risk losing to make space for what is being cultivated. A side of Scorpio that I find to be so beautiful is its ability to transform, not in solitude, but through the union with another.

As inspired by these two moons, we are being called to translate the unseen spirit into physical form and find places where we can merge parts of ourselves with another.
