Welcome to ⚡︎ AQUARIUS SEASON
your monthly deep dive into the astrology of the season ahead. this month we are embracing new perspectives, distance, and collaboration.
I keep telling people that I have finally fallen in love with winter. But maybe that’s because I have spent much of this winter in tropical/beachy locations. lol. This Capricorn season felt true to me. It was full and strong. I worked hard, but I also played hard. I wrote my first astrology column for a print newspaper, I worked extra holiday shifts at my sweet wine bar, sold nearly 100 copies of my book, and traveled to hawaii with my love. A dance between effort and ease. I am reminded that sometimes the foundational aspect of Capricorn, the work to build something lasting, just happens on its own. Through unexpected opportunities, making important memories, and slowing down enough to realize you are living the life of your dreams….
Now, let’s raise a glass (of warm ginger tea, perhaps) to Aquarius season!
AQUARIUS SEASON
Jan. 19 - Feb. 18
Capricorn initiated our descent into winter, and Aquarius sustains us through it. Being an air sign, it is uplifting and inspiring. But due to its fixed nature, it also provides a sense of stability and constancy. With both Capricorn and Aquarius being ruled by Saturn, the planet of structure, boundaries, and slow growth, I find that there is an interesting thread that ties these two signs together. As we move through the archetype of Capricorn, we ask ourselves, “What do I wish to build? How do I want to be remembered? What is my purpose?” We learn how to create a structure and life that supports our unique vision.
Aquarius comes in and challenges us even further to ask, “Why do I want to build this thing? Who do I want to co-create with? What impact on the greater collective do I wish to have?”
As the innovator and visionary of the zodiac, Aquarius asks us to open our eyes to the world around us and broaden our gaze. It is the sign that reminds us of our interconnectedness and dependency on one another. It is a place of collaboration, cross-pollination, and collective creativity.
A struggle I see many of my Aquarian clients face is their need to detach or distance themselves. Which I think can be particularly challenging in a society that asks us to constantly engage and show up no matter what.
Aquarius is a sign that needs space. It thrives when it can zoom out and gain a new perspective. We can’t collect new ideas or gain creative inspiration when we are constantly plugged in. We need that mental space of wandering of zooming out to see the bigger picture to assess life from different angles.
That is the magic of Aquarius.
It takes a problem and looks at it from all sides, it puts it under the microscope, it throws it across the room to see where it lands, it flips it upside down, until the lightbulb finally goes off, and inspiration strikes!
In a way, Capricorn season teaches us the importance of building, while Aquarius season gives us permission to break and shatter. We learn the limitations and boundaries so that we can adequately push up against them and challenge them.
Aquarius is naturally a bit rebellious after all. It infuses a spark of excitement into the areas of our lives that might be feeling tired or bored.
So, in the dead of winter, Aquarius season arrives like an exciting novel you’ve been dying to get your hands on. While the body might still be craving warmth and hibernation, the mind is looking for new connections, stories, or ideas to help create a new flow of mental inspiration. Don’t feel pressured to jump into action (that is what the spring seasons are for). Let us brainstorm, daydream, absorb information, and envision as we continue to dream of new possibilities for the future.
From the Luminary Journal on Aquarius Season:
“Aquarius governs the ankles, calves, and circulatory system, symbolizing movement, flexibility, and the flow of ideas. Mentally and spiritually, it encourages innovation, originality, and connection to the collective. Thus inviting you to break free from limitations and embrace different perspectives as you contribute to the greater vision.”
Final Call for The Luminary Journal ✶
By the time this post is published, I will likely only have a handful of copies left. My goal is to sell them all out by the end of January. As of last week, I decided to donate 100% of the sales from the remaining journals to a few of these LA wildfire relief fundraisers. I have enjoyed writing in my very own luminary journal and am grateful to everyone who has been sharing their experience so far with me :)
Major Lunations of Aquarius Season:
🌗 Last Quarter Moon in Scorpio (1.21)
🌑 New Moon in Aquarius (1.29)
🌓 First Quarter Moon in Taurus (2.5)
🌕 Full Moon in Leo (2.12)
Just as our major lunations of last season were all in cardinal signs, inspiring the descent into winter, we embrace the steadiness of fixed sign moons this month. These signs offer us stamina and stability to help us find peace within our current season, both in the natural world and in our lives.
The new and full moon this season appears on the Aquarius/Leo axis. These signs invite us to find a spark of inspiration and confidence right where we are. They inspire us to embrace the future while also knowing that this present moment is all we truly have. A new moon in Aquarius invites us to experiment with a new way of doing things while the full moon in Leo reminds us of the fundamental importance of feeling joy.
