Last week I took a two hour yin class and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Now I know that sounds really dramatic, but it’s kind of true. I usually love long yin, restorative, even meditation practices...I am a yin teacher after all. Why was I mentally counting down the minutes instead of melting into bliss?

We didn’t open the space. We didn’t prepare the mind to drop into deep stillness.

I thought about it later and reflected to a few friends about it and this is the conclusion I came to. We jumped into 2 hours of (basically) stillness without opening and inviting the mind to come with us.

Last week, I talked about practicing stillness and cultivating a safe space for dropping deeper with the new moon in scorpio. I have still been thinking about it a lot. This two hour yin class did what we often do and jumped straight to the point without preparation. I don’t think it was inherently wrong. I did however notice that my mind and body stayed relatively separate and restless for most of the time.

As we move deeper into this Scorpio Season and into a waxing moon phase, I am exploring what it means to intentionally prepare the mind and body for certain activities before “jumping in”. A warm up if you will.

Here are some things it might be helpful to warm up for:

  • warm up for meditation by moving the hips and spine

  • warm up for a vigorous movement practice by connecting to the breath

  • warm up for a long flight by getting the heart pumping and increasing circulation

  • warm up for a difficult conversation by grounding your energy into the earth

  • warm up for an intense shift at work by doing something you love first

  • warm up for showing up for others by first showing up for yourself

a warm autumn day in brooklyn. watching the flowers slowly transform.

I finished writing all of the content and reflection prompts for my 2025 sun + moon journal last night. That was a big moment of accomplishment. Now I get to edit and input the beautiful artwork from my collaborator. I am excited to share it with you and also announce more ways to engage with sacred seasons as we move in to the new year.

But for now, we continue to warm up, practice stillness, kiss the moon, and stay in the flow of life. Let’s get on to the astrology of our first week of November, shall we?

Moon Moves:

Sunday → Tuesday: Waxing Crescent in Sagittarius 🌒
Wednesday→ Thursday: Waxing Crescent in Capricorn 🌒
Friday → Saturday: First Quarter Moon in Aquarius 🌓

To be honest this is a really great week for manifesting or envisioning future dreams for yourself and the collective. While still holding on to that space you opened up within the Scorpio New Moon, you can venture deeper into the subconscious space and connect with what you are truly desiring.
