Sister Sunday
an ode to my girl, venus in taurus, and an action moon // june 1 - 7
Welcome to June!
To me, June feels like a breath of fresh air…a settling into the season after an extremely busy spring.
This month, my sister and I are moving out of our apartment. We are somewhat of an iconic duo, so I’ve decided to dedicate this week’s newsletter to her.
My sister and I are close in age. Two and a half years. Sometimes we look like twins, but often people correctly guess that I am the older sister. When we were growing up, we worked in a coffee shop together and shared a shift on Sunday mornings. The regulars called it Sister Sunday, and we always raked in good tips because of our compatible wit and Fiona’s impressive latte art.
We have been lucky enough to have lived together for the last four years in a beautiful little Brooklyn brownstone across the street from a park. When we aren’t busy with work or friends, we are usually glued at the hip. She was my first yoga student as I was practicing my classes; she spent hours on the mat patiently moving from downward dog into a forward lunge until I stopped mixing up left and right. I “proofread” her grad school papers on the Ottoman Empire, pretending that I can even be remotely helpful. She cooks most dinners (and usually does the dishes too). I attempt to balance out kitchen help by making coffee every morning and keeping the snack cabinet stocked. We surprise each other with ice cream in the freezer or dark chocolate milano cookies from the bodega. Over time, our closets have merged into a giant shared collection of clothes. Her old shirt is my new shirt, and then eventually becomes her shirt again.
She calms me down, helps me make rational decisions, and is always ready for an adventure. I firmly believe that the best thing a person can have in this world is a Taurus sister who can read their mind.

And so, as we prepare to move out of our sweet sister haven and into new apartments with our respective partners, we have a lot of sorting, shedding, shifting, softening, and splitting of clothes to do. I’ll forever cherish the luxury of living with my sister.
But for now, we’ll keep squishing into the bathroom while we get ready most nights, share morning pots of coffee, review our daily outfits together, finish each other’s thoughts, and text from our desks while we are working from home on opposite ends of the apartment.
As with every Gemini season, this one holds multitudes, complexity, curiosity, and playfulness. I’ll be taking mental snapshots of my favorite memories as we close down this chapter and prepare to open the first pages of our next…
