Practicing Stillness (Scorpio New Moon)
Your astrological & energetic update for October 27 - November 2
Last week, I taught a class in the authentic business club on Scorpio Season. Instead of sharing my personal anecdotes from the week, I thought I’d share a list of practices that I am curious about exploring (and invite you to join me) as we move deeper into this season of endings and stillness.
1/ simplify your downtime
I’m talking edging on boredom. I find that my daily practices and rituals can sometimes overwhelm and crowd my mind with new ideas/thoughts. This month I am going to try doing just a few simple stretches and sitting in silence. No guided meditation, or music, or oracle cards. Just breath and stillness…my daily practice in the scorpio season post is intended to guide us into deep stillness for this reason.
2/ engage in vulnerable conversations
with all of the water present, and especially a new moon in scorpio, you might find that creating a safe space for honest and vulnerable conversation will help alleviate some of the pressure that can build during this season.
3/ notice where you are feeling resistance
when we begin to dig deeper and open ourselves up, it is natural to face resistance. it’s like going to a yoga class for the first time in months, you feel the resistance of the muscles that haven’t been stretched in a while. it takes time, practice, and compassion for these muscles to open and soften once again. the same is true for our emotions.
4/ prioritize moments of stillness
this is my ultimate practice this month. finding time to just sit. walking to work with no headphones. letting myself teeter on the edge of boredom and see where my mind naturally wanders.
5/ stretch your eyes
okay this one sounds weird, but i recently started doing this more and i can’t stop. especially for those of us who spend a lot of time on screens (specifically phones), our gaze can become locked and narrow. again thinking of the eyes as a muscle, we need to stretch, move, and mobilize this organ (yes i did have to double check that our eyes are in fact organs). a few times throughout the day, i have been slowly circling my eyes around while keeping my head completely still and then opening my eyes wide, expanding my peripheral gaze, as if i am looking out onto the ocean. try it out.
5/ give permission for what needs to end
scorpio is a season of endings after all. the grand decomposition and season of decay. i am getting more comfortable saying that and allowing an ending to feel just as important as a beginning. make a list of things that you are ready to finish, put down, close the chapter on, or let go of. this can be big life decisions if that feels relevant, or it can be as simple as finally deciding to donate those books that you have let pile up for too long (note to self).
6/ feel. it. all.
the truest embodiment of scorpio is feeling it all. the shame, the joy, the fear, the uncertainty. our society loves productivity and often times big feelings aren’t productive. we have a habit of pushing them to the edges of our consciousness in order to keep moving. this season invites you to get comfortable in the emotional realm and start to gently sink into a conversation with your feelings.
Let’s take a look at the specifics and dates of this watery wonder week…
