Perfectionism and Self-Publishing
Your astrological & energetic update for December 1 - 7
My alternative title for this week’s post was: Turkey and Typos.
Last week, I schlepped into midtown to pick up 100 copies of my book. There is a very determined and stubborn person that lives inside of me that in no way doubted my ability to carry one hundred books by myself from midtown to my brooklyn apartment. Let me tell you, I was wrong to think that would be no big deal…my arms are still sore.
But I was so proud of my book (or journal rather)! I finally had them all in my hands!
Later that night, after setting up my online store, preparing shipping funnels, and tying up last minute loose ends to prepare for launching the journal for pre-sales, I went to have thanksgiving dinner with my boyfriend’s family. I brought a copy of my book for his mom, I knew she’d want one.
After a full meal, we were sitting around drinking wine, and she began to flip through my book. She stopped and held the book up “why did you spell it like this?” Which every Virgo rising knows is just a nice way of someone pointing out a typo to you. “Oh! Because I spelled it wrong it looks like!” The Leo in me did a really great job of performing casual cool girlfriend while the Virgo rising in me melted to the core of the earth.
A huge typo. In the biggest font possible. On one of the one hundred copies of my book that I just lugged through New York. Perfect.
In the end, there was enough food and wine in me that I was able to laugh it off and only overanalyze for a few hours instead of days. Could I have had more eyes look over my journal? Sure. Could I have printed it before Mercury went retrograde? That would’ve been a great idea.
But here we are. Perfectly imperfect.
I’ve been pre-writing this week’s letter in my head for a few days, feeling all my feels, knowing that by writing to you about my mishap, I would probably feel a bit better. Miraculously, as I sat down to begin writing, Sabrina Y. Smith’s latest piece was waiting for me in my inbox. Titled: Making Mistakes (And Moving On) - it felt like she knew exactly what I was about to spill out on the keyboard. Reading through her mistakes (and process of moving on) made me feel cosmically connected to her and gave me some permission to move on from my marvelous typo.
And so, I offer to you this week - permission to make mistakes, laugh at your typos, collect yourself and move on. Part of me feels like I should’ve done better, but part of me is also really damn proud of writing, printing, carrying, and selling my first piece of work.
I don’t want these mistakes to deter me from doing big things and accomplishing my goals - even if they aren’t perfect.
If you want to be the owner of a limited edition taurus typo copy of my 2025 Luminary Journal, I would love your support <3
All printed edition purchases made before Dec. 6th are eligible to win a free reading with me! (a great holiday gift if I do say so myself).
Now on to the astrology of our first week in December…let me tell you there is a lot going on…
