New Year, New Moon
Your astrological & energetic update for December 29 - January 4!
And so, we find ourselves in the final week of 2024. New Year’s is my favorite holiday. Partly for all the sparkle, glitter, and champagne, but mostly for the epic collective passage of time we celebrate. Wherever we are in the world, we count down to midnight and honor the movement from one year to another. To me, this holiday embodies something I have been craving, chasing even. This feeling of celebration or ritual of commemorating the change of season, the passage of time. I think we used to be a lot better at this practice before we started becoming so focused on the gifts and ‘stuff’ that started surrounding holidays and birthdays. We used to gather and cook great big meals and participate in religious or spiritual practices to honor a life force greater than us. But most of all, we used to intentionally come together and be present with each other as we passed the threshold from one chapter to another.
Some years, I like to be alone on New Year’s Eve. I enjoy a quiet evening full of yoga writing and ceremony. In other years, I like to be out with the people, all dressed up, swirling around in the anticipatory energy of what is to come.
This week, we have a beautiful new moon in Capricorn, closing out the year. Because of this, I am also being mindful of creating more space for solitude in a week with a dark sky to help preserve my energy and listen more closely to my intuition.
As for you my dear readers, I am eternally grateful to have you here with me circling through the seasons. I sometimes think of how wild it is that you all are reading my words from such different seasons of your own lives. It strikes me as magical that although our lives are so different, we can still feel connected through the seasons of the earth, the cycles of the moon, and the energy we share.
