Welcome to ★ LEO SEASON
your monthly deep dive into the astrology of the season ahead. this month we are jumping for joy, rekindling our confidence, and tapping into our heartspace.
Drumroll, please…it’s my favorite season of the year! As an astrologer, I suppose I shouldn’t have favorites. But as a Leo, I do and it’s this one. 😏
On July 22nd, we move out of the waters of Cancer and into the fixed fire sign of Leo. While Cancer as a cardinal sign initiates the season of summer (with summer solstice), Leo as a fixed sign sustains us through this season.
Let’s think about the energetics of all of the fire signs to better understand Leo. Aries is cardinal fire, it’s like a quick spark, exciting and impulsive. Sagittarius is mutable fire, like a firework, explosive, expansive and far reaching. Leo being fixed fire, is the campfire that brings people together and keeps them warm. It represents the center, the heart of the matter. Its consistent burn attracts attention and radiates a feeling of joy and childlike wonder.
The season of Leo plus the season of summer is double fire. It embodies a purification through burning and melting. The days are long and hot and although there is much to do, we find ourselves craving time in nature with loved ones simply connecting.
I love Leo as an archetype within the zodiac. Because it is ruled by the sun, it demands attention. Not in an egotistical way (although that can be the shadow aspect of this sign). But in a way that wants to be witnessed. Leo is a sign that is so deeply devotional and grounds itself through feeling appreciated and that the love they give is reciprocated.
Leos are radiant. Like the glow of that summer campfire, they attract whatever they put their mind to. The good, the bad, the marvelous, the wild. I think Leos are underrated secret manifestors of the zodiac. Something about their magnetism and underlying patience to see things through.
As we dive deeper into Leo Season, notice what area of your chart Leo occupies and meditate on how you might infuse more radiance, magnetism, or main character energy into this area of life.
At the beginning of this particular summer season, I had a big to do list. I planned for a full business rebrand and a lot of new projects. But the universe had different plans…summer plans. I found myself at weddings, hosting friends, yet still craving more social time and less time working on projects or studying.
At first I felt guilty for not working as hard as I planned, then I remembered the magic of seasons and I sat down with my own chart. When I planned to do all of my courses and business projects, the sun was moving through Taurus and Gemini. In my chart these cover the 9th and 10th houses representing higher education and career. So it makes sense that I was putting a lot more focus here.
As the summer went on and the sun moved into Cancer in my 11th house of friendship and community, my focus on these projects started to wane as I prioritized my friends and loved ones.
Now as we make the turn into Leo season, I can expect a homecoming to my spirituality, as it happens this way every year. I find myself writing a lot more and forming a deeper bond with my spirit and connection to the universe.
I say all of this to remind you that we can’t operate at full momentum 100% of the time. Like the moon waxes and wanes, so does our energy as the sun laps around our chart.
Major Lunations of Leo Season:
🌗 Last Quarter Moon in Taurus (7.27)
🌑 New Moon in Leo 8.4
🌓 First Quarter Moon in Scorpio (8.12)
🌕 Full Moon in Aquarius (8.19)
I love the patterns of astrology, especially when it comes to the lunar cycles. This month, all of our major lunations are happening in fixed signs giving us the ability to sustain our energy, commit to projects, and see things all the way through. Last month, our major lunations were all in cardinal signs which gave us good motivation to start new habits or take initiative in some way.
In the peak heat and radiance of summer aka leo season, all we have to do is sustain what we have started. This is your permission to give yourself grace if you are struggling to start something new or if you are feeling unmotivated during this season. The new moon in Leo gives us a chance to re-visit our passions and child like sense of joy, while the full moon in Aquarius shines a light on celebrating the community we’ve cultivated over the last 6 months.
