After the Main Event
welcoming gemini season, new saturn era, and yin&yang cycles // may 18 - 24
I’m going to keep this week short and sweet because you’ve got a big Gemini newsletter headed your way in a few days! I feel connected to the ritual of this Sunday drop-in in so here we are.
I am currently taking a virtual Yin Yoga lecture course. One of the lecturers, Joe Barnett, presented on an idea that I’ve been pondering all week. He talked about the life cycle of a pose. The yang-like beginning with movement and mobilization, the gradual descent into the shape where yin and yang meet as the body finds stillness under the gentle stress of the shape, and finally the peak yin moment in the savasana-style recovery where the body gets to bask in ultimate rest.
I always thought of the pose itself as the moment of most yin. You are holding in stillness for time and quieting the mind. But actually, I learned that the utmost, peak rest comes after…the release of any effort, no matter how subtle, and the nuance rebalancing the body does on its own.
This has had me thinking that the true moment of peace or insight often comes the moment after the main event. When we can simply float in the remaining echoes of what once was. This is often true in astrology as well. The biggest a-ha moments come after the full moon, or the lessons of our saturn return actually alchemize once we are on the other side.
